There’s a sneakiness to what goes on and I thought that was very smart. Then one night she gets to know a guy while at the grocery store. As 'Fresh' (2022 release 115 min.) opens, we got to know Noa, a twenty-something woman who is not having much luck on the dating scene. ![]() I really liked the clever way the writers let the third act unfold. Startling and disturbing movie is one of this year's best so far. Sometimes it can be clever/interesting to turn justice on its head and change it up in a wild horror film, but sometimes it’s best to not allow the bad guys to win. I am someone that gets very into films like this and wants very much to see justice be served and while I won’t say how this comes about, there is a sense of justice in the third act. The suspense and creep factor comes from the haunting dialogue, environmental factors, and the sheer force of Stan’s performance. And yes there is plenty of suspense and an abundance of thrills believe me! Much to my delight, as I said before, the majority of those thrills are not a result of extreme gore. There’s a well timed pacing to the events that unfold too. I really appreciate that they decided to take their time and give us a twenty five to thirty minute opening that’s focused on both character development and setting a certain tone.īy the time we meet Stan’s character we already have a decent idea of who Edgar-Jones’s character is. The films title and “opening” credits actually don’t even come across the screen until about half an hour in when things start to heat up. Follows Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones), who meets the alluring Steve (Sebastian Stan) at a grocery store and given her frustration with dating apps takes a chance. En la primera cita, Noa está encantada y acepta la invitación de Steve de irse de escapada romántica el fin de semana. Está tan harta de las aplicaciones de citas que apuesta por él y le da su número. ![]() You can tell pretty much right away that this is an intelligent horror flick that is interested in far more than blood and guts. Here you can see the ‘stride’ in the left-hand and the melody in the right-hand. This is the opening of the famous composition ‘The Entertainer’. In the extract above it is easier to understand the characteristics of Ragtime I mentioned in the earlier paragraphs. This was in part due to the syncopated rhythm, but also the careful construction of the tune combining a compelling mix of movement by leap and step. The melodies, especially those of Scott Joplin, were extremely appealing and catchy. It is not an easy technique to master but this is one of the key elements of Ragtime piano music. Stride playing involves the bass note of the chord sounding in the lowest part of the piano, on the main beats of the bar, whilst the chords are on the weaker beats towards the middle register of the instrument. The left-hand style I refer to is also known as ‘stride’ piano technique designed by pianists at the turn of the century to give the impression of a piano re-creating the sound of a larger jazz ensemble. This fusion of cultures came most commonly in the form of piano pieces that would characteristically have the steady march-like pattern of accompanying chords in the left-hand of the piano, whilst the right-hand played the syncopated melody. When this music was fused with the more traditional and somewhat straight-laced marching band music of the Western cultural tradition, the music of Ragtime was formed. ![]() This means music that does not play on the beat of any given bar, but instead ‘off the beat’ creating a sense of lilt, swing, and forward motion. A characteristic of African American music was a rhythmic feature called ‘syncopation’. What can perhaps be considered to be part of the enduring appeal of Ragtime is the fact that it is a combination of music from both African and Western cultures. Ragtime music is essentially an early form of jazz music that dominated the American Jazz scene from the late 19 th to the early 20 th century. One of his most played and adored pieces, ‘The Entertainer’, composed in 1902 for piano solo, demonstrates so many of the characteristics of this style of music that we will explore in this article. ![]() This is because he is perhaps the most celebrated composer, and performer, of the style of music that came to be known as Ragtime. To many people, the mere mention of the word Ragtime prompts the name, Scott Joplin. ![]() The Singapore government, for example, now constructs and validates in the digital world before committing to any physical build on site through its virtual design and construction methodology. ![]() These central repositories of digital information precisely mirror physical assets, and they’re already in use across trains to turbines. Digital twins also have an important part to play as we move forward. When construction gets underway it’s leaner, cleaner, more predictable, and safer. The result? Fewer surprises and costly mistakes, improved health and safety, and better collaboration through bringing minds together earlier on to problem-solve. In Norway, Atkins teams are already bringing all parties involved in a project together right at the start to test and plan the proposed construction digitally first, reconvening at regular intervals. They help everyone understand what’s happening at every step of the way in a project lifecycle, and it’s an approach that government bodies such as Highways England want to see more of. For example, teams are already devising digital rehearsals, or trying things out first in the digital space first before introducing them into the physical space. Early adopters in our industry understand this. If we design with data in the first place, using these tools that are now widely available to us, we’ll get a richer visualisation of the project from the very outset, and more granular interaction with the design. Design transformation is about moving from drawings to data. Sure, there’s been the need for some handholding along the way, but if we’re not prepared to overcome the obstacles of a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality, then we lose out on the many ways that technology can support us to do differently, and to do better.Įssentially, the task is to take that leap, put digital first, get your platform sorted, and share it. MS Teams, cloud-based filesharing, browser-based model viewers such as BIM360, Revizto, 3DRepo and Bluebeam. We’re fortunate to have a broad range of tech in our toolkits to help us. That means today, from our kitchens and bedrooms, we’re still supporting clients and contractors to collaborate, to test asset designs, to view construction plans. Yes, we had the tech, but we also had the willingness to use it. Despite the highly unusual situation facing us all, business as usual for many of us was starting to resume. Only a few days into the March 2020 Covid-19 lockdown, some 95% of Atkins staff had the tech we needed to keep working as usual. It’s also about changing our behaviour, as teams and as individuals. One thing is certain, change is not just about technology. It’s my role to share our collective ideas about how we can harness data and technology, transform the construction sector, and improve productivity. The current situation could be the game-changing element that actually makes that happen.Īs a change consultant, I’m used to telling others about the benefits of embracing new ways of working. There has been an industry challenge for a while to reduce the amount of time spent on site, building sites being one of the most dangerous places to be. For many of us, using new tools and gaining new skills now could mean remote working off-site will become commonplace. There are benefits to working remotely now that will continue far longer than the lockdown. But could this forced change be a much-needed catalyst for our industry, that ultimately delivers benefits from having to embrace new technology and ways of working? I think so. Many sites remain closed, so we are having to work differently. Gary Wilson of Akins asks: How can we prepare ourselves for that new normal as we strive to keep construction projects moving?Ĭoronavirus has presented challenges to everyone, everywhere and the construction sector is no exception. Its folding design makes it quite easy to fit into a photography backpack, but it's physically larger and heavier than DJI's 'Mini' range, so keep that in mind if you're after the lightest model to take on your travels.
